World Nomads are an innovative Australian company that have become the leading travel insurance company for independent travellers.
Recommended by Lonely Planet they cover travellers from over 150 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and the UK and they cover adventure sports and valuable items such as iPods and digital cameras.

Almost unique in this field is the fact that there is no maximum duration to their policies allowing a customer to indefinitely extend their policy, and since they also allow their customers to claim online while they are still away, their level of online service is world class.
World Nomads also seem intent on helping their travellers (or any travellers actually) travel a little more easily and safely through their FREE iPod language guides which allow you to easily learn about 30 or 40 basic phrases in up to 15 languages. Smart and humourous.
We also commend them for establishing the Footprints Network a program by which their customers contribute back to the communities in which they travel, which is a somewhat surprising move for an insurance company.

Travel Insurance Direct obviously put a huge amount of effort into listening to their customers and have an attention to detail that ensures there is no wasted effort and their customers have everything they need at their fingertips
They have a maximum age limit of 81 and have developed a smooth process for handling pre-existing medical conditions, which makes them particularly suitable for Seniors. And if that still isn't enough, their call centre is open 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Definitely the one to beat.

In terms of financial backing and security, Travel Insurance Direct has some fine pedigree and is underwritten by Allianz Australia. TID seem intent on dominating the online holiday travel insurance market with high levels of cover at prices unparalleled in Australia. In addition their attention to superb customer service suggests they are serious about taking on the tradition players.
If you are going on holiday for 3 or 4 weeks, look no further.

They were efficient, reliable and called me constantly to see how I was recovering while in Greece. The claim was handled quickly with no problems. I recommend them to anyone who is travelling overseas. A 10/10 from me!

Insure4less are a new entrant to the market for online travel insurance, their site is clean and fast and they have a high quality underwriter.
Their prices are good, although this is achieved by focusing on the younger demographic and excluding all pre-exisiting medical conditions among other things.

Suresave is the 2nd largest provider of travel insurance in Australia.
They have some exceptional and innovative products particularly for older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions. In fact they are about the only online travel insurance company we could find where there was no upper age limit.

I sustained an injury while in Plungkung national park accessible only by boat or a 12 hour 4x4 journey through dense tropical jungle. I dislocated my foot and broke my leg and with some vascular damage leaving me with potential blood clot issues which could of been life threatening . As I did not have a credit card with me (all my id etc.being back in Bali) so I could not pay for the helicopter medi-vac and I could not endure the drive back or bumpy boat ride so your team did such a good job of organising my evacuation, transfer to the BIMC and care for me while waiting to get home. Also booking me on a early flight home with a connection from Melbourne to Sydney with someone at every turn to help me with baggage and immigration. What would of been a nightmare for me travelling alone with three surfboards two bags and a broken leg became totally stress free.I would also like you to pass on my sincere appreciation to everyone at Garuda and especially the Qantas ground staff in Melbourne who were amazing and the medical team at the Bali International Medical Centre were exceptional with the facilities being A+ and staff caring for me like I was a member of there own family.I have just been released from hospital after surgery to rebuild my leg with steel plates and screws, my journey now is one of rehabilitation and from what the medical staff have told me getting me out of Indonesia and into surgery quickly was the best option as they know of one case like mine where the patient died due to blood clots .So please personally thank for me Robyn who helped on the phone in Java and Kevin who booked my flights while I was in the BIMC and keeping my wife updated in Australia and any one else behind the scene that literally could of saved my life. It is probably something that you all do on a day to day basis but for my wife & three children and I it was a good days work.I have always taken travel insurance for granted , something just incase my luggage went missing and never really considered the importance of insuring for a medical evacuation , so I can whole heatedly recommend your company to anyone looking to be insured , and all ready all my friends and family want to know about SURESAVE because you sure saved me.DB, NSW

I purchased their policy twice, the price and the service is the best I've ever seen. Flexible period of policy and all online services is so convenient. I'll get the insurance from WorldNomads before my trip everytime.

My wife developed complications during her pregnancy while abroad and covered with World Nomads travel insurance (met their guidelines for coverage). World Nomads provided a guarantee to a hospital when she was hospitalized over night resulting in direct compensation. They also covered all prescriptions and other related medical charges ($1,800) and processed the claim within days after receiving all the documentation. I would recommend copying all receipts in case there is any issues. We were very satisfied with the results of our claim after wondering if we would be out in the dark when we did need them. World Nomads came through with their insurance in a very timely fashion! Will definitely buy again.

Fantastic to find a travel insurance company that you can sign up with when already overseas. Also to be able to extend while overseas is great. I am on my 4th policy with WorldNomads. I have not needed to make a claim so cannot comment there. There online help is quick and efficient.

Travel Insurance Direct is wonderful. Last year my previous insurer trebled my premium and included a hefty excess because the claims I had made over the past 5 years exceeded their claim-premium ratio. I googled cheap insurance companies and couldn't believe the premium - it was even less than I had been paying to a cheaper than normal company. I rang the help desk as I couldn't believe that my claims history wouldn't affect my premium, but NO PROBLEM! Now I am very thankful that I was a problem to the previous company as I am definitely not a problem to TID.And when I had to claim for flight delays, there was absolutely no problem. GO WITH THESE GUYS - THEY ARE THE BEST - not just in price but in service and cover.

Nomads seems to be the best insurance mix I can get for winter sports (very important!), long-term overseas work and travel, medical and personal belongings.

Being a Brit, I was initially concerned about choosing an insurance company based in Australia - mainly because of the time difference and cost of calls in event of a problem claiming - but everything was handled online. They even accepted scanned copies of my proof of purchases/receipts/bills. Highly recommended - and don't forget you can go through Buckscoop (www.buckscoop.com.au) to get 4% off (if you are an Aussie), and also enter the promotional code STPJMS when buying to get a further 5% discount off your policy!
